Meet David

The Hunter Wine Country has a special place in my heart.

I first visited the Hunter Valley in 1990 and was instantly taken with the country air and the beautiful scenery. Since then the Vally has changed but one thing is certain the food and wine scene has taken off.

I still remember a bottle of 1983 Lindeman’s Hunter River Burgundy at Roberts Restaurant in 1991, the beautiful accommodation at the Convent, and more recently the amazing local food at Muse and it’s sister restaurant Muse Kitchen, as well as Bistro Molines and the Cottage at Mount View. The scenery and climate along with passionate locals produce an area that is tailor made for wonderful food and wine, open fires and of course beautiful wines.

David is the owner of Hunter Valle Private Chef, a company which aims to create amazing food and experiences for all manner of clients across Newcastle and the Hunter regions.

Since setting up Hunter Valley Private Chef in 2011, while working between London, France, Italy and Asia as a Private in in Villas and private residences, David has worked tirelessly to create the best private chef service across NSW and beyond.

 His clients include world leaders in business, the arts and entertainment, as well as a growing list of the super-rich and famous.

David has over thirty years’ experience as a professional chef in some of the best restaurants in Australia and with some of the world’s best chefs, this has provided the perfect platform to create beautiful and delicious food for all manner of clients and in all manner of locations.  His mantra is that nothing is impossible, just a problem waiting for a solution.   

From the fine diner “the Pier” in Rose Bay circa 1990 he worked across hatted Sydney restaurants though out the 1990’s winning a coveted “chef’s hat” from the good food guide in the early 2000’s for his modern French food at “Cafe de la Galleire”. From here he opened and worked for several restaurants, as well as becoming a cookery teacher for several years.  Prior to establishing Sydney Private chef, he worked for Pretty Beach House one of the Luxury lodges of Australia, creating modern Italian food infused with native Australian ingredients, and more recently took this experience to the House of Oz at the Edinburgh fringe festival creating a series of Australian inspired degustation’s for the Taste of Australia series.

With the success of Sydney Private Chef, the business has expanded with David opening Sydney Private Chef, Terrigal Private Chef and Bowral Private Chef, the later also involved in the food service at Dormie House in Moss Vale with the restaurant “The Dining Room”.

David also is the owner of Terrigal Whole Food a healthy whole food cafe, restaurant and meal delivery service located on the NSW Central Coast near Terrigal.  Here his emphasis is on creating beautiful healthy and nutritious meals which can be eaten in house or delivered to your door, as curated meal box solutions.  Along with his plant-based business the Plant Based Chef the two work hand in hand to create a healthy way to eat for all.  

David food incapsulates the best on offer and the best in season as well as his thirty years in the kitchen. Having begun in high level fine dining he has branched out to include a wide range of cuisine styles including modern French and Italian,  Asian and Middle Eastern cuisines, as well as training and working in patisserie, chocolate making, sugar work and bakery.

He favours sustainable and ethically produced fish and meats as well as organically grown vegetables, fruits and grains.

The food champions the excellent produce that is on offer though menus developed on individual clients needs considering occasion, location and client needs.

Our suppliers

We use the best possible local and international produce across all of our menus, sourcing directly from some of the best bakers, butchers, fish mongers and providores, as well as the best quality meats, seafoods, small good, vegetables, oils and vinegars from across Australia and the world. Our food is as simple or as complex as you wish to make it, but always of the highest quality.

Our clients

Our clients include business leaders, leaders in the arts and entertainment, as well as professionals across a diverse range of fields. The service offered is tayliored to suit all needs whether you need a chef for a month in the Hunter Valley or you have a special occassion. From scrambled eggs in the morning to a six course degustation or cocktail party ion the evening, our aim is to make it easy for you.

Vegan, gluten free and everything in between

Our business is meeting your needs including all dietary requirements. For the past six years, we have specalised in vegan, gluten free, sugar free meals for many different clients. So much so that we have launched The Plant Based Chef to tap into the demand for dietary based eating. So, if you are vegetarian, vegan and gluten free, dairy free and everything in between, let us know as we are happy to accommodate.
